On Friday, March 7th, EQUS USYD Node Reps Yuktee Gupta and Kun Zuo hosted an awesome EQUS BBQ at the Sydney Nanoscience Hub. The event marked the unveiling of a stunning bright blue EQUS Weber, which will remain at the Sydney Nanoscience Hub as a legacy for all quantum group to enjoy in the future.
The BBQ provided an excellent opportunity for new members and collaborators to gather, bask in the sun, and share lunch while getting to know each other and catch up.

In addition, we celebrated International Women’s Day with some delicious cupcakes. As delicious as they were, the real focus of International Women’s Day is to advance and celebrate women’s equality worldwide. EQUS members were challenged to consider what actions we all can take to support this goal. Each of us can choose to be a supporter that calls out stereotypes, challenges discrimination, questions bias, and celebrates the success of our colleagues. As a practical step, we offered tours of two of the EQUS labs for women enrolled in 1st year physics, and as a result introduced an engaged and enthusiastic group to quantum science at USYD.
A special thank you goes out to everyone who contributed to the success of the event: Christophe Valahu and Quantum Control Lab, Node administrator Dinethri Aluwihare, and Node Reps Yuktee and Kun. Here’s to many more enjoyable gatherings at the Sydney Nanoscience Hub!
