Ting Rei Tan wins funding from Wellcome Leap to drive multi-disciplinary research

Congratulations to Dr Ting Rei Tan, who was awarded a contract by US-based non-profit organisation Wellcome Leap as part of it’s Quantum 4 Bio (Q4Bio) challenge. Dr Tan and his team, which also include Prof. Ivan Kassal from the School of Chemistry and Prof. Pablo Fernandez-Penas from the Westmead School of Medicine as Co-PIs, were 1 of only 12 teams worldwide, and the only one in Australia, to be selected to participate the Q4Bio challenge: a multimillion-dollar program that aims to accelerate applications of quantum computing in healthcare and demonstrate quantum-enabled solutions to address pressing human health challenges. Additional details about the Q4Bio program are available on an overview web page here

The Sydney-based team aims to address a critical bottleneck in today’s drug development – the inability of conventional computers to accurately predict quantum chemical dynamics in molecules. We wish Dr Tan and his team the best of luck!
